Once Nothing- First Came the Law (2008) 4.5 out of 5

Okdokie while i will admit that this isn't the most orginal album ever brought upon the face of the earth, this one does have some standout form the other bands of this genre (note: i am reffering to, Maylene and the Sons of Disaser and He is Legend. oh the Showdown too, because these are the only similar bands i know)I got this album when it came out January of 2008 and listened to it once and blew it off like nothing (hehe stupid pun i know.) but then in fall of 2009, i was digging throught my CD collection for somthing to listen too and i pulled this baby out. i threw it in and decided to play The Elder Scrolls 4 while i listened (amazing game by the way.) in between killing Ogres and Goblins i let the music sink in and relized; this is alot better than most other Southern Metal bands; now don't get me wrong, i love Maylene but this was...different. the way the heavier, less southern rock-ish parts where, reminded me of August Burns Red for some reason. and that's when it hit me. they were playing a true form of Southern Metal, not just heavy southern Rock. i'm not sure if you understand what i'm talking about, but if you do that's awsome, because that means i'm not crazy!.
Thank you for reading this, and sorry if it didn't help u decided anything.

Nothing sucks about this Once Nothing Greatness...

Metallica said it best, they came to do it faster, harder and better and Once Nothing doesn't fall short in any of those categories.

Along the lines of my personal favorite hardcore and metal albums, As I Lay Dying's "Shadow's Are Secrutiy", He Is Legend's "Suck Out the Poison", Poison the Well's "Opposite of December" and the Deftones' "Around the Fur", this album would should please any fan of the genre.

Why it doesn't seem to sort of puzzles me. I don't think the trend now a days is for bands to "replicate" the sound of the scenes, or to "cash in on the newest waves", for the most part. I think the real trend is people trying to be elitist bastards because of the influx of sooo many new bands every single month struggling for the top spot. And like Homer Simpson puttin the drinking bird on the "no" key in complete lazyness, people fail to view albums in entirity. Instead giving one unmotivated listen, finding a similarity and immediately writing a great band off.

The scene is ridiculous. It's trashed amazing albums from Thrice, He is Legend, Catherine, Oh Sleeper, As Cities Burn and many many other bands who's new albums and directions are a serious step in the right directions.

Listen to this album. Really listen to depth, speed and raw power of once nothing, and realize that it's all entertainment and, besides the acoustic song that i have only stopped and listened to a handful of times, this album will do nothing but entertain.

If I could give this album 6 stars, I would.

Good HARDCORE music

All these other people just apparently don't enjoy this type of music. If you like Maylene and The Sons of Disaster or He Is Legend, then I'm pretty sure you'll like Once Nothing. All the rest of the reviewers here just must not like this type of music. This really isn't "metal" is falls more under the genre of "hardcore" or maybe "metalcore".

Wow... nothing short of the word.

This is BAD, really bad.... I can't say that more. The disappointment I had with this record is incredible. This is awful. From other reviews and their myspace, they say they're "blue-collar metal" and have a 'southern influence'. Nothing could be farther from the truth. This isn't anything close to metal. At all. Each song has the usual and trendy 'stupid long titles' that so many bands use nowadays. "All of my heroes are cowboys." Ok? Really? That's supposed to be taken seriously? I can take that as seriously as I can take their claim to metal-hood. This is nothing short of bland, simplistic, boring, trendy, and genre-repetitive music that tries to make it these days. PLEASE, if this band is to ever continue, please try and do something NEW! Maybe if this record had innovative and complex song structures, much better vocals, blistering solos, and maybe even some better lyrics and song titles, it would be acceptable. As of yet, it is not. To spend your hard-earned currency on this would be a waste of such a sum of money. Spend it on something else that showcases much more talent such as Blind Guardian or Kalmah, or anything else worth spending money on.
